49. Prior To Departure

In the Dragon Kingdom, within the Dragon Clan's palace, days had passed.

The dimly lit palace was devoid of any firelight, with only scattered starlight filtering through the glass, casting a cold glow upon the dragon throne.

Seated upon it was a silver-haired dragon loli, her head bowed, her expression unseen.

"…Your Majesty, the Queen," Lucia greeted Xia Lulu with a bow.

"Is that you, Lucia?" Xia Lulu did not lift her head.

"Yes, Your Majesty, I have returned. The army of Gudan has been defeated by the princess, the civil strife in Blackstone Kingdom has ended, Gu Ya has regained power and become the king. As agreed, he has handed over the magic crystal mines to us, everything is…" Lucia lowered her head, "as you wished."

"Where is Xia Yi?"

"After the battle in the Cold Wind Valley, the princess disappeared without a trace."

"I see, you may leave," Xia Lulu's voice was devoid of emotion.

There was no rage, no anxious orders to search, just a calm response indicating her awareness.

Lucia found this familiarity unsettling.

The Xia Lulu of the past was heartless, cruelly sacrificing her kin to ascend the throne, becoming a queen feared by all dragons.

After having a daughter, Xia Lulu had changed subtly.

Yet with the princess's departure, the Queen seemed to have reverted to her old ways.

"I shall take my leave, Your Majesty," said Lucia.

After her departure, the grand hall was left with only the Silver Dragon Queen, engulfed by a tide of cold loneliness.

A black-haired human girl walked the streets of Black River City.

This border city of Blackstone Kingdom, a river city and a hub of trade, was frequented by many races, including humans.

Thus, Xia Yi, transformed into a human, did not stand out.

"Wow, it's a human!"

Xia Yi was excited.

It had been six years since she had seen a human!

Today, she finally saw them again.

Humans with their goods were trading with the lizard race, acquiring minerals from Blackstone Kingdom to transport via riverboats to other nations.

Xia Yi planned to find a human boat and leave Blackstone Kingdom.

Days had passed since she left Cold Wind Valley, and the impact of that battle had spread throughout Blackstone Kingdom.

"Have you heard? Gudan has been defeated by Prince Gu Ya."

"How is that possible? Wasn't Prince Gu Ya cornered by Gudan? I thought Blackstone Kingdom was his."

Xia Yi overheard the lizard laborers gossiping during their break at the docks.

"It seems you really don't care about national affairs."

"I only care if I can earn more tonight to buy something tasty for my wife!"

"You're hopeless. Let me tell you, Prince Gu Ya was indeed no match for Gudan, his forces were in disarray, Gudan was even preparing his coronation, ready to annihilate Gu Ya, but guess what happened at Cold Wind Valley?"

"Out with it, don't be like a storyteller, dragging it out!"

"Don't rush me. Prince Gu Ya was doomed, but then he brought in the Dragon Clan princess!"

"The Dragon Clan?"

"Yes, the Silver Dragon Princess from the Dragon Kingdom defeated Gudan's army. Seeing the dragons fully support Prince Gu Ya, who would dare oppose? They all fled, and Gu Ya quickly reclaimed his lands, triumphantly returning to the capital."

"But I heard dragons are usually evil, aren't they?"

"That was in the past. Things have changed. The dragons helped Prince Gu Ya reclaim his throne. In gratitude, he's allowing them to mine the magic crystal veins. The dragons are now seen as good!"

"But aren't the magic crystal veins ours, the lizard race's?"

"Well, yes, but our Prince Gu Ya is generous and knows how to repay a favor. Are you interested in working for the dragons, mining the crystals?"

"No way, mining is too dangerous and doesn't pay well…"

"You don't understand. The dragons pay much more than the nobles, several times more, and they even offer vacations. They're very conscientious!"

"That sounds great, I'm in!"

After listening to the conversation, Xia Yi pondered.

She had thought that after her disappearance, Lucia would have the entire nation search for her, but that didn't happen…

Was it to prevent the news of the Dragon Clan princess's escape from leaking out?

Maybe, maybe not, but no one would answer her now. It was better to focus on practical matters.

Xia Yi found a passenger ship leaving at night for the Rhine Kingdom and bought a ticket.

"The noble young lady traveling alone, isn't that dangerous? Have you been separated from your servants?" the ticket seller asked, curious about the not-so-tall Xia Yi.

"I'm a mage traveling the world; there's no need to worry about me," Xia Yi summoned her rosewood staff.

Seeing the staff, the ticket seller's attitude changed. So young and daring to travel alone to a foreign land, she must be powerful. Not many humans possess magical abilities, and he didn't dare to neglect her.

"Miss Mage, I was rude earlier, please forgive me. Here is your ticket."

The ticket seller handed the ticket to Xia Yi.

She examined it closely; it was written in the human language, clearly stating passage to the Rhine Kingdom.

She had it, that familiar feeling.

Without a word, she nodded, took the ticket, and boarded the ship.

Xia Yi entered the cabin and saw many humans. Such a strong human presence, she had only felt it in her previous life.

Although not unpleasant, it was…

Most of those people were traveling together, some with their families.

Xia Yi felt oddly uncomfortable being alone, so she avoided the crowd and went to the deck, leaning on the railing to feel the night breeze.

"Now that I'm no longer the Dragon Clan princess, I can leave Xia Lulu, whom I despise, and return to the human world, just like Monet…"

Despite saying this, Xia Yi was enveloped by complex emotions at this moment.

Was there something important she had forgotten to do?

Or had she left behind something important?

Aside from the Holy Sword, there wasn't much else of importance…

She pondered on the deck for a long time without finding an answer, until the ship's horn sounded.

The ship started moving, and the time to leave had come.

"Mommy, where are we going now?"

"Daughter, it's time for us to go home."

"Oh!"

Xia Yi heard a mother and daughter talking nearby.

The little princess looked up, gripping the railing tightly, looking in the direction of the Dragon Kingdom, then towards the opposite side, towards the Rhine Kingdom.

"I should be excited right now, but why do I feel unhappy…"
