9. Hill

"What is a Sword Saint?"

"Young one, draw your sword, and your name shall ride the winds."

"Can you elaborate?"

"Walk alone, enter the fray, and claim the head of the army."

"Could you be more specific?"

"Slay dragons, never die, praised by thousands."

"Still don't understand?"

"Once invincible, now fleeting!"

The students of the Laurel Academy were excitedly discussing the legend of the Sword Saint.

The reputation of the Sword Saint had long echoed throughout the human world.

The Laurel Academy itself was located within the Rhine Kingdom, naturally attracting many students from the human world, and even students from other races were influenced by such legends, which began to spread beyond the human world.

Therefore, it was only natural that Teacher Hill was popular.

She herself was a direct disciple of the Human Sword Saint, with exceptional strength and talent, and even a candidate for the Holy Sword wielder. It was no exaggeration to say that if the Human Sword Saint Wright decided to retire one day, Hill would have a good chance of becoming the next wielder of the Holy Sword.

Adding to that, Hill's outstanding appearance and full charisma made her the perfect goddess in many people's eyes.

With such a swordsman leading the team, the students of the Laurel Academy felt very secure in carrying out their research project.

"Speaking of which, an elder in our family was fortunate enough to meet the Sword Saint once and even got his autograph, 1 for sale."

"11111, are you really giving it away, big brother?!"

The students of the Laurel Academy were chattering away.

Hill shifted her gaze from the sea back to the students, silently counting the number of people in her mind.

One, two, three, four, five, six, seven…

Good, no one's missing.

In fact, this trip to Golde was not only an assessment for the students but also for her.

Hill had been at the Laurel Academy for nearly five years.

While others were still students at the academy, she had already become a junior teacher.

Of course, this was all thanks to the titles of Sword Saint's disciple and candidate for the Holy Sword wielder.

However, these titles were just a stepping stone and couldn't guarantee her teaching career. To advance from a regular teacher to a senior teacher, she needed proof of achievement.

If she could help the students complete “The Black Tide of Golde" research project, such an achievement would be enough for her to be promoted to a senior teacher at the Laurel Academy.

Initially, the Laurel Academy was quite against this research project, deeming it too dangerous.

But there was one student, Albert, who was very persistent, and somehow he convinced the other students.

Under the strong request of these seven students, the academy agreed, and to prove herself once again, Hill was sent along with the students to Golde.

Hill lightly jumped from the sea rock back to the shore and approached the students, asking, "Any new discoveries?"

"Teacher Hill, we made a major discovery last night!" One of them wanted to show off.

"Didn't I say that you are not allowed to move around at night? Did you conduct your research without my permission and without informing me?" Hill said coldly.

In terms of age, Hill wasn't much older than these students; they were practically peers.

But the aura she exuded was enough to overpower everyone.

"Ah, this…"

Seeing the situation, Albert quickly pulled the indiscreet student behind him.

"Teacher Hill, we found that in Golde, the Black Tide has occurred more than once, which is a significant discovery!"

"Hmm?"

Albert saw that Hill seemed somewhat interested and quickly shifted the focus to continue.

"Teacher Hill, we found an old man in Seaside City who had a record book passed down from long ago, documenting the history and observations of Golde over hundreds of years. We spent a sum of money to get permission to read from the old man, and after perusing the record book, I discovered something astonishing!"

"Continue."

"Golde had experienced the Black Tide many years ago. However, the scale, frequency, and harm of that Black Tide are incomparable to what we see now. The previous Black Tides were very covert, and many people in Golde didn't notice, thinking it was just a natural disaster. But in recent years, the Black Tide has undergone a drastic change, becoming the terrifying disaster we see today!"

"Anything else?"

"That's all we know for now," Albert shook his head, "It feels like the written records are too sparse. To truly uncover the true nature of the Black Tide, we might need to experience it firsthand…"

"Hey, what are you saying, Albert? Don't speak such ominous words!"

Another student patted his shoulder.

Albert realized his words had been a bit too outrageous, creating an awkward atmosphere.

"’The Black Tide of Golde' research project must proceed normally, adhering to the rules of the Laurel Academy, and must be conducted within safe boundaries. Any action must be reported to me. If anyone acts without my permission like last night, I will remove them from this research project and hand them over to the Disciplinary Committee for punishment," Hill warned.

Hearing the words "Disciplinary Committee," the students' faces changed.

After all, students who made mistakes and were sent to the Disciplinary Committee had to go through a transformation, the details of which were a secret. But the transformed students came out as if brainwashed, becoming incredibly well-behaved.

They certainly didn't want to end up like that.

"Understood, Teacher Hill!"

The students responded in unison.

Hill sighed softly.

Managing students was no easy task.

She could somewhat sympathize with the hardships her own teacher had faced.

Thinking of Wright, a complex expression emerged in Hill's eyes.

In fact, her entry into the Laurel Academy was also somewhat related to the Sword Saint.

From the time she was a child and became Wright's student, she had adored her teacher, holding him in high esteem and reverence. It was because of him that she embarked on the path of a swordsman and achieved what she had today.

However, six years ago, when the Sword Saint returned from the Dragon Kingdom, he had changed.

The Sword Saint became very unfamiliar, not at all like the Wright Hill knew.

It felt… as if the real Sword Saint had been replaced, no longer the teacher she knew.

But she had no concrete evidence; everything was just speculation, unprovable, and the Sword Saint was nowhere to be seen.

Even if she spoke out, others would think she was spouting nonsense and causing trouble, so she could only keep these secrets buried in her heart.

After being troubled by these worries for a long time, she decided to join the Laurel Academy and become a teacher.

On one hand, she wanted to experience what it was like to be a teacher, just like her mentor had been.

On the other hand, she hoped to divert her attention by being busy with other matters, so she wouldn't always dwell on these troubles.

But these were ultimately just ways of escaping and did not completely eliminate the troubles in Hill's heart.

"If the Sword Saint really is an impostor, then where is the real teacher?"

Hill wondered silently to herself.

"Six years have passed, teacher… you must still be alive, definitely persevering with your sword heart."
