60. The Biography Of The Dragon King
"Just?" Xia Yi tilted her head in confusion.
"Um, just…" Sera hesitated.
This "just" dragged on without producing anything substantial, the hesitant manner was starting to really frustrate Xia Yi.
"Speak, speak, hurry up and say it!!"
Xia Yi was annoyed by such people, those who liked to keep others in suspense, piquing their interest without giving anything away.
"Your Highness, I… I don't know," Sera said.
"Huh?"
Xia Yi had an expression that screamed "Are you kidding me?", feeling as if she was being played, and was so irritated she wanted to grab Sera by the tail.
"If you don't know then just say you don't know, what's with the 'just'?"
"Your Highness, regarding the past of Her Majesty the Queen, my understanding is limited, it's mostly hearsay, but these may not necessarily be true, just like the outside world's perception of our dragon race. It's not prudent to take this information as fact, you might want to find a more reliable way to understand."
Xia Yi felt like there was more to Sera's words.
A more reliable way, huh?
The little princess stroked her chin, deep in thought.
Sera had entered the Dragon Palace when Xia Lulu had already become the Silver Dragon Queen, so it was normal for her to not know much about her past, probably similar to what others had heard.
As for the Dragon King's impression of Xia Lulu—
A ruthless ruler who had sent her own kin to their graves.
This was known throughout the dragon race.
After all, Xia Yi had witnessed her own uncle being sent to the guillotine by Xia Lulu for treason, so it wasn't surprising that Xia Lulu would do such things.
Regarding the details of this history, she realized she hadn't really looked into it.
Sera did have a point, if she were to ask her, she probably couldn't give a clear explanation either, since she hadn't experienced it firsthand.
Either go directly to the dragon race's history or find a dragon who lived through that era.
If that was the case…
Xia Yi had an epiphany.
"I got it! Sera, I have something to do, so I'll be leaving first, don't prepare dinner for me!"
After making her decision, she bid farewell to Sera and trotted off.
Watching the action-packed princess leave, Sera felt a bit sentimental.
"In the past, Her Highness wouldn't care about these things, just thinking about playing every day. Since when did Her Highness start to think seriously?"
…
Xia Yi arrived at the library.
It seemed like it had been a while since she last visited this place.
Approaching the front desk, she saw a little bone dragon sprawled on it, not moving at all.
Definitely asleep!
Oh no, as the librarian, to be slacking off so openly?
If a book thief were to come by, the dragon race's library would suffer a great loss.
Just as Xia Yi was about to catch Creak red-handed, the little bone dragon suddenly sprang up.
"Good afternoon, Your Highness!"
"Were you not asleep?" Xia Yi was surprised.
Creak replied, "Your Highness, I am an undead bone dragon, I don't need to sleep!"
"But I saw you zoning out just now…"
"As long as there's a life force approaching, I can react immediately, that's why I was appointed as the librarian!" Creak boasted with a hint of pride.
"Alright then," Xia Yi conceded, though she still seemed a bit skeptical.
"Your Highness, it's been quite some time since I last saw you! However, I've heard all about your brave deeds. You made quite an impression in the Blackstone Kingdom, aiding the lizard prince in reclaiming his throne. It's truly admirable!" Creak chattered excitedly.
"Really?" Xia Yi replied, a touch of modesty in her voice.
"Absolutely! The strength and presence you displayed have captivated everyone in the dragon race!"
"It wasn't much, hehe~ After all, I am the Silver Dragon Princess, such feats are but trifles for me!" The little princess couldn't help but beam with joy, basking in the praise and secretly wishing for Creak to continue lauding her.
"And then there's the time when Her Highness went to find the Queen with a pillow in arms—oof!"
Xia Yi's body reacted swiftly, her hand clamping over Creak's mouth as she smiled, "Creak, let's not speak of things that aren't necessary, shall we? Otherwise, you might end up as bone soup~"
Creak, visibly shaken, nodded vigorously, not daring to continue, and Xia Yi released her grip.
Damn it!
Xia Yi inwardly grumbled, frustrated that even Creak, who worked in the library, knew about that incident.
It completely ruined her good mood!
"Your Highness, are you here to read?" Creak asked, changing the subject.
"Yes."
"Here, Your Highness, this is your pass!" Creak handed over the pass with enthusiasm.
Xia Yi had a clear goal in mind.
The history of the dragon race was vast, tracing back to mythical times, which meant there was an overwhelming number of books related to dragon history.
Searching without a clear target would be like looking for a needle in a haystack.
Therefore, Xia Yi intended to look for history books related to the dragon royal family, especially those concerning Xia Lulu.
Books like the history of past Dragon Kings…
However, since Xia Lulu was still the reigning Dragon Queen, her life story wouldn't be chronicled until a new ruler ascended.
It would be better to look for the memoirs of the previous Dragon King.
"Creak, if I need to find a specific book, can you help me locate it?" Xia Yi inquired.
"Of course, Your Highness, I remember the location of every single book here!"
"Good, find me the memoirs of the previous Dragon King."
"Do you mean… Lord Gerka?" Creak asked for clarification.
"Yes!" Xia Yi affirmed.
Gerka·Christie, Xia Lulu's father, was also the previous Dragon King.
"I know exactly where it is, please follow me!"
Creak led Xia Yi through the vast library of the dragon race.
The library was immense, almost like a street in itself, with a staggering number of books.
Without a knowledgeable guide, one could easily get lost.
Creak brought Xia Yi to their destination.
Xia Yi saw hundreds of books floating in mid-air, enveloped by a blue magical array, surrounded by countless magical runes protecting them.
Her heart skipped a beat, her blood flowing faster as if resonating with the books.
"Your Highness, those are the memoirs of the past Dragon Kings," Creak informed her.
"Then let me take a look."
As Xia Yi approached, the runes lit up, and a powerful repelling force emerged, pushing her out of the area.
"Your Highness, without unlocking the seal of the magical array, you cannot access the memoirs of the past Dragon Kings," Creak explained.
"Then I must see them," Xia Yi insisted, her determination evident.
"Your Highness, the magical array's seal can only be unlocked by the reigning Dragon King. It's an ancient rule passed down through the ages," Creak said, his tone apologetic.
"Am I not allowed either?" Xia Yi's voice carried a hint of disappointment.
"I'm sorry, Your Highness, even with your royal bloodline, it's not permitted. Currently, only Her Majesty the Queen has the right to access these memoirs. Before Her Majesty became the Dragon Queen, this privilege belonged to the late King Gerka," Creak elaborated.
"Even if you don't believe me, killing me would be pointless. I must adhere to this command; it's etched into my soul stone," Creak's most precious soul stone flickered, affirming his words.
Xia Yi was now in a difficult situation.
She couldn't read the memoirs herself, and asking Xia Lulu to come and order Creak to unlock the array was even more absurd.
She seemed to be out of options—
Wait.
An idea struck her.
She and Xia Lulu were nearly identical in appearance now. To impersonate her would be a simple feat, wouldn't it?
