64. The Mischievous Xia Yi

The name Xia Lulu was one that instilled fear in the hearts of all within the Dragon Kingdom.

With this identity, Xia Yi could toy with many who had once bullied her.

Take, for instance, that middle-aged, single dragoness who taught etiquette classes!

Just by slightly leaning her body, she would tie herself to a chair and fix herself there for hours. It was utterly detestable!

And then there was that old coot Gran, who would drone on about tedious matters in class and force memorization. If one couldn't recite the material, punishment was inevitable, which was also quite excessive!

Xia Yi also recalled something of great importance.

That old coot, when she had not approved his funding application for magical research, held a grudge in his heart and even had the audacity to suggest canceling her afternoon tea.

Detestable, truly detestable, and utterly wicked, she must teach him a lesson!

With these thoughts, anger bubbled within Xia Yi.

Now, as the Silver Dragon Queen Xia Lulu, she wielded the power of life and death over Gran. Since the opportunity was rare, why not make arrangements for him?

"Why hasn't Her Majesty the Queen approved my application for magical research funding recently?"

The elderly dragon furrowed his brows, restless with this question, unable to sit still.

"Could it be that I've somehow angered Her Majesty? No, that can't be right. I haven't seen Her Majesty for some time now, and since the last time I received funding, I've been secluded in my research."

No matter how much Gran pondered, he couldn't find an answer.

He was also reluctant to directly inquire with Xia Lulu.

What if he had indeed done something wrong? Approaching her would be akin to delivering himself to her on a silver platter.

As he was deep in thought, the door was pushed open.

Gran was already irritable, and an unannounced visitor was like a match to gunpowder. Whoever this person was, they were about to face his wrath.

"Without prior notice, no one may disturb my magical workshop. Get out!!" Gran roared in the direction of the door.

"What grandeur, Master Gran. It's been a few days, and you dare to tell me to leave. Perhaps you'd like the throne of the Dragon King for yourself~" Xia Yi entered.

"Ah?"

Gran was taken aback.

The old dragon's legs went weak, his face ashen, nearly collapsing to the ground as he hurriedly apologized.

"Your Majesty the Queen, I'm sorry, my old eyes have failed me!!"

Xia Yi appeared calm, but inwardly she was bursting with joy.

Pfft, pfft, pfft.

Gran, you're so imposing in front of me, always boasting about the value of your magic. How come you're not so capable now~

"Coincidentally, Gran, why don't you help me with my worries? Dealing with state affairs every day is so tiring."

"Your Majesty, I beg you, please don't joke with an old man like me. I really can't take such jokes… it'll shorten my life…" Gran's old face twisted, nearly in tears.

Such a perfect act.

Xia Yi was inwardly proud.

It's no wonder I'm so good!

Her meticulous observations of Xia Lulu, even experiencing her playful nature firsthand, were now paying off.

"That… may I know why Her Majesty has visited suddenly?" Gran cautiously inquired, his voice tinged with apprehension.

"Are you questioning me?" Xia Yi's response was cool and measured.

"If you don't tell me… how could I dare to guess?" Gran replied, his unease palpable.

"Gran, do you really have the gall to ask me?" Xia Yi's tone sharpened, her gaze piercing.

"This… this…" Gran stammered, his words tumbling out incoherently as he struggled to make sense of the sudden riddle that had left him utterly flustered, fearing that a single misstep in his words could spell disaster.

Yet Xia Yi remained silent, simply watching Gran. The weight of her silent scrutiny was suffocating.

He had no choice but to muster his courage and ask, "Is it about… the funding for magical research?"

"Are you dissatisfied because your application for magical research funding wasn't approved?" Xia Yi queried.

Gran was caught between a rock and a hard place. To speak the truth would be to oppose the Queen, but to lie would be a crime of deceiving the monarch.

To serve a ruler was like walking with a tiger.

Gran found himself in a difficult predicament.

But Xia Yi hadn't thought that far. She had no idea that Gran's mind was a battlefield of strategies. She was just casually playing her role, and to her surprise, she had actually managed to fool Gran!

"The application for magical research funding wasn't approved because you need to look for the problem within yourself, Gran, not blame others," Xia Yi lectured, "especially harboring resentment and waiting for an opportunity for revenge. Such behavior is despicable."

"Ah?" Gran was utterly confused. What did she mean by waiting for an opportunity for revenge? What had he done?

But he dared not object and could only nod in agreement.

"Yes, yes, Your Majesty, you are right. It's my fault."

At his admission, a fire ignited within Xia Yi. So, the old coot had admitted it. He really was seeking revenge!

"For the time being, don't apply for funding for magical research. I don't want to see it," Xia Yi huffed coldly.

"As you command…" Gran internally cried foul, still unable to grasp where he had offended the Queen.

"Also, regarding the princess…" Xia Yi paused, "don't force her to learn magic, and don't assign her homework. If she wishes to sleep in class, don't disturb her."

"That's not advisable, Your Majesty! The princess's character is lax; she needs supervision!"

"I know what I'm doing!" Xia Yi glared at Gran.

"…As you wish."

Gran could only comply, not daring to say more, though he was puzzled by the Queen's unusual behavior.

But he didn't dare to question it here.

"Gran, consider yourself lucky this time."

"Yes, yes…" Gran replied helplessly, his smile strained, feeling that something was amiss.

Xia Yi felt a rush of satisfaction. Afterward, she didn't linger, quickly making up an excuse to leave before she stayed too long and risked exposure.

Being the Silver Dragon Queen was exhilarating!

Now, who to deal with next?

The etiquette teacher?

Or perhaps Sera, to decree that she must add osmanthus cakes to the afternoon tea every day?

Hmm, not quite right. Xia Yi felt that Sera was too familiar with her and might recognize her, which would greatly increase the risk of exposure. Better to find someone else…

As she walked through the palace corridors, the little princess pondered her next move with glee.

At that moment, the Royal Guards, led by the Royal Guard Captain, rushed towards her in a flurry of urgency.

"Her Majesty the Queen is right here!" the guards exclaimed upon spotting her, their voices filled with excitement.

The Captain of the Royal Guard, without a moment's hesitation, approached her with a fierce determination.

This was bad. Had she been discovered?

Xia Yi thought to flee, but it was too late.

Yet, to her surprise, the Captain stopped before her and bowed respectfully.

"Your Majesty the Queen, we have finally found you. Please, you must come quickly!"

Then, the guards surrounded Xia Yi, escorting her away.

She was utterly baffled.

"What's the matter?"

The Captain's expression was grave as he informed her, "The Storm King, ruler of the undead race, has made an unexpected visit to our Dragon Kingdom! This is a matter of great importance, Your Majesty, and it requires your personal attention!"
